8 Everyday Words With X-Rated Origins

By Dan Saunders August 11, 2008

"Hey, that plant there is kind of shaped like my balls," is something that you're really not allowed to say in polite society. It wasn't always that way, though.

As it turns out, many of the words you use every day were invented by people who had wieners, balls and asses on the brain. Yes, we're serious. For example:

#8. Hysteria

What It Means Now:

An over emotional reaction, chaos, a Def Leppard album.

Trix demanded I make a Cat Post :-P

Submission Type:
Platform:

So about a week ago, Shalis and I adopted two cats from a local rescue society. They came as a pair and would not be adopted separately. Not that we minded because they are now our furry children :) Their names are Misha and Sparta. Those have been their names for their nearly two years of life, so we did not feel it right to change them now. Anyways, enough rambling and onto pictures!

Here is Misha, the girl. She is the smaller of the two and thinks of herself as the Queen of the household.

Here is Sparta, the boy.

We bought them a cat jungle gym and initially they loved the box more than the actual piece of furniture.

Ria and the Filth (TSW band)... Parody

Saw the above Youtube video, and had this silly thought in my head.
My TSW character, Maria, conned the Filth to create her own band, where she's the lead singer.
I thought the PVC tubes from the instuments would work as tenticles of the Filth... and the Blue... it's how the Filth appear under spotlights.
Anyway... a silly post, for you all to enjoy, especially the Secret World players.

Look at that face!

Why Americans still use Fahrenheit long after everyone else switched to Celsius

Updated by Zack Beauchamp on February 16, 2015, 9:30 a.m. ET @zackbeauchamp

Virtually every country on earth aside from the United States measures temperature in Celsius. This makes sense; Celsius is a reasonable scale that assigns freezing and boiling points of water with round numbers, zero and 100. In Fahrenheit, those are, incomprehensibly, 32 and 212.

Alabama - The Tuskegee Incident
In 1932, the government left 600 impoverished black men infected with syphilis untreated in order to study the effects of the disease as it progressed. The men never knew they had syphilis. Many of the men infected their wives and children (and some died) before a whistleblower alerted the media... forty years later

Alaska -- High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program
Some believe that the ionospheric testing could trigger or already has triggered massive natural disasters such as the flipping of the magnetic poles, trigger earthquakes or even turn the upper atmosphere in to a lens, essentially setting the sky on fire. These disasters have led to HAARP being referred to as "the Moby Dick" of conspiracy theories by writer Sharon Weinberger.

World of Warcraft is banned in Crimea

world of warcraftBlizzard Entertainment

A number of Crimean gamers are complaining that they have been blocked from accessing the online communities attached to “massively multiplayer” titles such as Diablo and World of Warcraft. Some are attributing the service blackout to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

The theory that the U.S. is behind the shutdown comes from the recent signing of an executive order banning the import and export of American tech products and services to Crimea. Secondhand reports posted to gaming forums and social media, however, suggest that some users in Crimea may still have access.

EA comes up with an ingeniously sleazy new way to milk money from gamers

The freemium game industry just took a twist for the worse — although you can’t help but appreciate the ingenuity of developers in this particular case. EA has decided that players will need gas for their car races inside Need for Speed: No Limits, and the company will sell it to you via in-app purchases.

FROM EARLIER: 2015 is the year that we stop preordering video games once and for all

Of course, there’s always the option of waiting for your tank to fill back up automatically, but that will not always coincide with your need for gaming, as that will take some time.
